Partnership with Roseville Police Department!

"In honor of National Back to School Month, we're highlighting our School Resource Officers.

Next we'd like to introduce you to Ann Marie Howland, the #SRO for Buljan, Cooley, Chilton, Silverado, and Eich Middle School. Her main focus is on tobacco education and enforcement.

Ann Marie has been an officer for 20 years. She lateraled over from another department and has been with the Roseville Police Department for four years. Over her 20 years as an officer, she's worked as a Patrol Officer, Recruiter, Background Investigator, Field Training Officer, and now School Resource Officer.

Ann Marie has been trained in Brief Intervention (counseling intervention for adolescents who use alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs), De-escalation, and Hostage Negotiation.

Ann Marie is responsible for five middle school campuses. Each day she's on a different campus. Her job is to:

• Connect with students to develop rapport (greet during drop off/pick up, hang out during lunches, presentations in class)

• Educate students on tobacco’s negative health effects

• Educate parents on what youth are using, how it is being used, and its effect on their brain and body

• Work with teachers and staff to intervene with students on tobacco issues

Ann Marie said, "I love connecting with the students and making them laugh. I like having them get to know me for the person I am and not just for the uniform I wear. I have a daughter in 7th grade myself and I feel like I really understand what middle schoolers are going through."

Ann Marie loves swimming with her daughter, playing video games with her daughter (especially Roblox), walking her dogs, and spending time with family.

Fun Fact: Ann Marie met President George W. Bush in the Oval Office, in the White House."
